Rose
An independent server emulator for a legacy MMO, written in Rust. Built by reverse engineering the game’s protocols and behaviour and reimplementing its server systems in original code. The stack covers authentication, real-time gameplay, persistent world state, PostgreSQL storage, live metrics, and remote administration.
// Why it exists
Understand how a legacy MMO works through reverse engineering, then implement its server systems in original Rust code. Rose is an independent emulator, with no involvement in the official game’s development and no affiliation with its developer or publisher.
// Architecture
A Rust/Tokio server stack covering authentication, real-time gameplay and persistent world state. PostgreSQL provides storage; live metrics and remote administration support operations.
// INTERESTING PROBLEMS
// Current status
Active development. Work focuses on protocol research, server behaviour reimplementation, observability and remote operations.
